Chronic Pain Relief

The Ozzie Smith Centers of Springfield are the only medical providers in southwest Missouri that provides a whole-body approach to finding the source of chronic pain and creating a customized solution to achieving a goal of living a normal life without pain. The Chronic Pain Relief Program at The Ozzie Smith Centers of Springfield is like no other.

If you’ve come to this page on our website, you or someone you know and love is likely dealing with chronic pain. They may be unable to attend family functions due to high levels or pain or the fear of aggravating their pain. They may be experiencing depression related to pain. They may be taking narcotic pain medication to mask the pain, knowing it will never solve the cause. The Institute of Medicine estimates that 100 million people in America suffer from chronic pain and 300 million prescriptions for pain meds were written in 2015 alone!

We are here to help.

At The Ozzie Smith Centers of Springfield, we understand chronic pain and its effect on the mind, body, and spirit. That’s why our physical therapist treat it from a whole-body perspective. Our physical therapists are trained in advanced manual therapy techniques, mindfulness medication, and specialized exercise programs to help our patients navigate their way out of the maze of chronic pain.

We empower patients to improve the quality of their life. After many years of treating patients suffering from chronic pain, we understand that patients have no hope after their condition has dramatically altered their lives. At our clinic you’ll see this saying by Henry Ford painted on the wall – “If you think you can, or think you can’t, you are probably right.”

Don’t be discouraged if you have tried massage, chiropractic, physical therapy, or pain management in the past and haven’t found relief. For whatever reason, these approaches were not the right approach at the right time to achieve the results you wanted. We hear this often, and most of the time we do see patients who have not had success with these approaches and are sent us by their physician.

Our attitude is that you have to know the combination to unlock your pain. What this means is that we will work to use a mix of (1) advanced highly specific manual therapy interventions, (2) specifically graded exercises, joined with (3) mindfulness/relaxation techniques to get your nervous system to quiet down. Our physical therapists use these key three principles to create the unique combination that will unlock your pain.

You may be thinking This sounds great, but how can it help me?

You have to realize that all pain is real. If you think you are in pain, then you are in pain. Yes, all pain is in your head because your brain is in your head. The brain processes pain signals no matter if it is back pain, migraines, or foot pain that you’re suffering from. Since all pain is processed by the brain, the brain must be an integral part of your treatment and finding your way out of the maze.

In all of our programs at The Ozzie Smith Centers of Springfield, the patient is an active participant in the treatment. Don’t expect to arrive at an appointment to “drop off” your body for maintenance like you do your car and expect to pick it up later and it to be running well and be pain free. Don’t expect to be given a general sheet of exercises that are standard for people with your problem. Neither of these two approaches describe active patient participation and neither are effective.

What you can expect is for our entire staff to know you by name, for your physical therapist to take time with you and listen to you, and for he/she to explain your issue to you in layman’s terms and the plan to help you. We will change the pattern of strain in your body first, then use exercise to maintain these changes. Don’t take it from us, read what people who have completed our Chronic Pain Relief Program have to say here.
